About St.Anthony's Girls' School

St.Anthony's Girls' School of Panadura was inaugarated after separating from the St. Anthony's Mixed School.    
       
This school was inaugarated on the 1st day of December 1951. Founder was Rev. Alex  Ranasinha. It was an assisted school at first and when the government took over the assisted  schools it become Government schools under the provisions of taking over of assisted school Act. Subsequently this school was known as Panadura St. Anthony's Girls' school. The school which began for female student with the 6th grade and had risen up to G.C.E. Ordinary   Level Examination.



From the year 1951-1965

The principals of this school were the honorable Sisters Mary Philomina an Irish National, Honorable Andrew and Honorable sister Clair.At that stage this school consisted of two class rooms and a building for home science.

From the year 1965- 1970

The post of principal was held by Honorable sister Rudolif . It is a special event to note that a Sinhala National holding the post of principal for the first time.

During the 1970 to 1979

The post of principals was held by Honorable
sister Mary Duff Mercy during her Administration
there was progress in preliminary physical resources expenses ,Education ,and sports. Arts subjects were added to G.C.E A/L Class. Students had  the opportunity to study home science and commercial subjects .At this stage cluster core building and another building for classes were built.

In the years 1980-1984

Composing of school song and Making of the
school emblem were taken place at this stage.
Honorable sister M.C.W. Karunanayake held the
post of principal, during this time there was
progress. During this period there was success in
educational events ,sports and environmental
activities.

From the year 1984-1990

It was the administration of principal
Mrs.P.S.Fernando. The physical resources had
been in a high scale.

During 1991-1993

Miss.Aberathne was the principal .During her
administrative period there was development in
physical resources and education as well.
 

From 1993-1997

Mrs. K.Widanegama was the principal .During this period fully equipped since Library was constructed with the financial assistance granted by the western province. provincial council and the some was declared opened on the 2nd day of August 1996. A special event was taller place by constructing a wall to ensure the security of the school.

From  1997-2005


The post of principal was held by Mrs.N.K Perera.
During her period essential requirements were
supplied. One of the main task was a construction of culverts and bridges to prevent the flooding of the school premises. The main roof the hall was in a dilapidated condition and it was repaired completely. The library of the school built on  the founds of the
international world bank was declared opened for students on the 2nd day of October 2000.

The laying of foundation stone for the three stories building constructed with the approval of the development Authorities of the western province was taken place in 1998 and the construction of the 1st stage was completed on the 22nd day of January 2004. the home science laboratory which was in dilapidated condition which was subject to inundatedcondition was replaced by the assistance of Mr.Noel T.Mendis then chairman of  The urban council Panadura making use of his private donation.It was Mrs. C.H. Jagodaarachchi who held the post of Deputy Principal in 2003.

From 2005 to date


Mrs. C.H. Jagodaarachchi was appointed the
principal in the year 2005. During her period a
number of development projects were completed. A flower garden and land scaping of the school
premises were taken place at this period.Pictures
were drown on the boundary walls, to make the
premises an attractive spot.To prevent the inundation of the hall dedicated for environment a bunt was built.

The supply of a water tank and a water taps for the use of the students were also attended.Another important event was taken place at this stage being the supply of shoes for the western Band Troop at a cost of Rupees Twenty Thousand and materials for the band at a cost of Rupees two Lakhs, costumes for the balay participants at a cost of Rupees Thirty Thousand.
